Why we focus on education
Education is the most empowering force in the world. It creates knowledge, builds confidence, and breaks down barriers to opportunity. It is key to breaking cycles of poverty and disadvantage. However, if current trends continue, by 2030, over half of the world’s 1.6 billion young people will lack the skills necessary to work and thrive.

Atlassian Foundation International Limited (AFIL)
Atlassian Foundation International Limited (AFIL) is a separately regulated institution that has collaboration agreements with a wide range of organisations across a number of countries. AFIL provides aid to low-income communities by collaborating with in-country organisations. Its primary focus is developing sustainable education solutions to break the cycle of poverty.
Partnering with Code.org to bring computer science education to students
Code.org is dedicated to expanding computer science education in K-12 schools, with a focus on increasing the participation of young women and underrepresented groups.
Code.org is also focused on the responsible use of AI in the classroom. They launched TeachAI to bring together experts in education and technology to assist governments and education authorities in AI understanding and policy creation.
The Atlassian Foundation first partnered with Code.org in 2021 and has renewed its pledge with an additional US$1.5 million in funding for the next three years to support Code.org in scaling its efforts.
Preparing youth from under-resourced communities for the future of work
Education systems around the world are failing to provide many students with the learning opportunities that will prepare them for the future they’ll soon inherit.
To help close this gap, the Atlassian Foundation has committed US$1.5 million over three years to support Teach For All’s “Future of Work” initiative.
Teach For All is a nonprofit that connects 60+ partner organisations worldwide to help share education innovations across borders. (A quick Atlassian product shout-out...Teach For All uses Jira Software and Jira Work Management to coordinate and communicate with these partners and its 94,000-strong alumni network.)
Our 14-year partnership with Room to Read
The Atlassian Foundation has partnered with Room to Read for over 14 years, in support of creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality.
We provide funding, volunteering support and free product licenses, and some of our employees have been lucky enough to visit Room to Read schools in India and Cambodia.
We were proud to screen Room to Read’s She Creates Change short films in our offices in 2023.
